Polo's location is highly regarded for several reasons. The first is because this small area has the island's most dependable sunny weather with the islands least rainfall. It's year around temperatures are in the seventy to eighty degree range and..

...second, the property is only about two minutes away from a bountiful choice of beautiful championship golf and tennis clubs as well as many fine dining places and island shops, yet it offers its guests, a tranquil,  "non touristy" tropical atmosphere, along with the smooth sandy beach just outside it's doors.              More About POLO BEACH   CLUB

Polo's superb location offers it's guests more than enjoyment of warm sun,  fresh, island air, golden sands and refreshing blue waters...it offers luxury accommodations conveniently at its doorsteps.  Vacation guests & owners appreciate this quiet, upscale resort's quality ,its convenience, competitive rates, beachfront and community privileges.  Some say it's a vacation paradise !

The Polo Beach Club was the area's first resort, thus it secured its prized position on one of Wailea's and Makena's nicest beach. The property was designed to take full advantage of oceanfront living. The pool and spa overlook the ocean. Tropical and native plants are carefully tended to preserve the island ambience in this small, exclusive resort that is situated on nearly two acres of prime oceanfront property.  Polo's solitary resort is a nice neighborhood, next door to a little park and  several world class resorts, (three of them designated placement in the "world's top ten resorts" awards). Polo's other neighbors include some lovely residential homes and exquisite golf courses.   Wailea's famed Blue Golf course is just across the street, in Polo's "backyard".  Several more outstanding golf and tennis clubs are within five minutes in either direction.

The property itself is luxurious but unassuming... Polo's quiet tropical garden entry welcomes guests with an immediate sense of relaxed aloha luxury. Blue Italian granite planters, lush plants, orchids and curved water fountains add serenity to the atmosphere.  Palm trees sway in the breezes and native flowers abound.  The well maintained resort reflects the dedicated management's care. There is a sense of tropical understated elegance that soothes tired souls by its quality and lack of pretense.  Secure underground parking and a helpful staff are on site.

The architect designed the unique open air property to reflect the island's beauty with its abundant use of native Koawood and marble accents. Large Hawaiian hand crafted tile murals, representing island sea life,  can be found through out the building.  There are only seventy one condominiums, each meticulously maintained and enjoyed by individual owners. The entire resort is quality designed for carefree oceanfront living  as well as privacy.  These vacation condos are so desirable, that some residents choose to live here year around. Several artists, a retired sea captain, a couple savvy realtors, and a writer are among its many interesting residents

The Polo Beach Club isn't for everyone. You won't find large group tours here even though it is close to many area activities. It is quiet and upscale. It is a non smoking property. The Wailea Makena area has a limited number of oceanfront condo rentals. Polo Beach is one of those nice accommodations and there are a few units available as vacation rentals.  We are pleased to feature one of the Polo Beach Club's special condos on our site above.

      <looking north over Polo Beach

During centuries past, the Wailea Makena area beckoned it's visitors to come and stay awhile with its good weather and scenic waters.  One of oldest   villages in the Hawaiian islands was recently discovered next door to Polo Beach.  It remains are preserved for future exploration.  The old King's highway can still be seen in this part of the island near La Perouse Marine Preserve just south of Makena. Today,  it is not unusual to see Hawaiian fishermen fishing the beautiful waters in this area. Many locals prefer the Wailea Makena playground beaches over all others.  Only the wind surfers prefer the waters on the other side of the island where it is more windy.  Swimmers and snorkel divers prefer this part of southwest Maui.

Today, this area's tropical charm beckons many of its visitors to return again and again.    It has some of Maui's best beaches for swimming, snorkeling or diving. The waters off Polo Beach are a favorite birthing ground for the Humpback whales that migrate to its warm waters every November and December. Sea turtles and dolphins swim the waters as do countless other colorful fish. The new Maui Aquatic Center opens its nearby doors to visitors to enjoy the sights of the sea.

"turtle town" as seen from Polo Beach.  >

The area offers sailing and boating excursions that leave from nearby harbors. Whale watching trips, in season, are available. Dinner cruises are delightful. Sunny weather is part of this tropical area's charm  so excursions are seldom cancelled. Snorkeling and diving lessons are offered at resorts and dive shops. Divers enjoy the colorful coral gardens and fish of the underwater world off Polo's shores.

The tranquil Wailea Makena area offers something for everyone. Outstanding golf courses with unforgettable views , tennis clubs, luxury day spas, oceanfront walks, fine dining restaurants and trendy shops add to the choices of things to do. For the more adventurous souls, there are bike, parasail, horseback riding and special diving expeditions.

<This early photo of Polo Beach shows the park & beginning of the walk   next door which remains unchanged. But a few other changes have occurred. The Wailea Golf club was built behind Polo and some upscale residential homes have been developed. The famed Wailea Golf Club boasts the Blue, Gold and Emerald courses, each with eighteen holes.  Nearby the Makena Golf club, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., provides golfers with the 36 beautiful holes on north and south courses. Their restaurants are local favorites and offer some good views, especially, The Seawatch  just up the hill from Polo Beach.

Tennis, with or without lessons, is a game of love, and two fine clubs are almost "next door" to Polo at the Makena and Wailea Tennis  clubs. Both facilities are top notch and promise good games with lessons, pro shops and well maintained courts.

This part of Maui is a good place to rejuvenate a tired body. The island is home to some lovely hikes and walks and some luxurious day spas.  The easy oceanfront walk next door to Polo Beach is delightfully refreshing as it weaves its way past  two or so gentle miles of historic places, beaches, and sights. In the other direction, there is still a bit of old Hawaii on a rustic lane, although some nice changes are on the way.  Should your tired body need more pampering rejuvenation,  the area offers a choice of spas. Two luxury beauty spas are next door to the Polo Beach Club.

The nearby Shops at Wailea occupy an open air shopping village filled with tempting goodies, nice boutiques, designer galleries, restaurants with views, art treasures and island specialties including some fresh pineapple and coconut ice creams. The village often provides its visitors with wonderful shows by island performers.  Don't miss the delightful performances of the little "kiki" dancers.

As you might suspect, this area is experiencing growth as its charm beckons visitors to return , but due to good planning and preservation, the area's atmosphere remains luxurious, quiet and tropical. This area is much less touristy than many other places on parts of the islands simply because buildings and hotel rooms occupy less square footage per acre than many other resort communities.  All is well planned and zoned to preserve its tropical residential atmosphere.  The area's biggest challenge  its heavy work hour traffic on two lane roads but Maui is working on this. The best thing to remember here, is that you are on vacation so there is no need to hurry.  "Hang loose".

Three of the Conde Nast's  top ten resorts in the world are adjacent neighbors to the park and the Polo Beach Club, so the neighborhood is very nice. This upscale community has limited oceanfront condominium rentals available--and, even less owner direct beachfront vacation rentals.

    <Polo Beach-Looking north, towards Lahina & Kihei.

At the Polo Beach Club, less than half of the seventy owners rent their condos-and of those who do, only a few rent owner direct.  Condominiums available directly from the owners, offer their guests a memorable vacation stay in one of the nicest resorts available and in one of the nicest communities on Maui.  Satisfied return guests often book, directly with the owner, a year in advance to secure their desired dates and to enjoy substantial savings over the published resort prices.
